Director of Innovation David Hooks spoke to the October 28th afternoon session of the Alabama Regional Planning Commission’s annual conference. Hooks addressed an audience of Municipal and County officials on the topic of “Utilizing Policy as an Innovation Tool in Local Government.”
Embarking first on a description of The Edge of Chaos, as well as its work and function, Hooks moved on to elaborate on his experience as Director of ADECA and City Councilman. He drew upon his experiences in these capacities to discuss how to use policy as a long term development tool in the local community.
These ideas that included use of tree, sign, fence, zoning and sidewalk ordinances, as well as fiscal policy, to define how future community growth can protect current residences, while fostering development.
