Q: I would like to make an Edge of Chaos reservation. How/where do I submit my request?
A: All reservations are now being made using The Edge of Chaos website. Click here to book an event!
Q: When I submit my "Book an Event" request, does this guarantee and confirm my reservation?
A: No, all submitted reservation requests are reviewed for approval by The Edge of Chaos management. You will receive an email within 48 business hours regarding whether or not your event is approved and confirmed. Submitting multiple requests for the same event may delay processing, so we ask that you please do allow 48 business hours before re-submitting or inquiring about your request. If 48 hours has passed, and you have not received confirmation or denial, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Q: Is there a fee for reserving The Edge of Chaos facility and/or resources?
A: Please see this page for pricing.
Q: What are your hours of operation?
A: The Edge of Chaos’s normal business hours are Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm. All other days and hours are subject to an additional after hours’ charge.
Q: I would like to have a project meeting at The Edge of Chaos, but I am unsure whether or not my group project fits with the mission of The Edge of Chaos. What type of project meetings does The Edge of Chaos host?
A: The primary purpose of The Edge of Chaos is interdisciplinary collaboration and interdisciplinary project/research development. We encourage projects of this nature to make utilize The Edge of Chaos.
Q: I went on the "Book an Event" page and see that there are multiple spaces. Could you tell me a bit more about the available spaces within The Edge of Chaos?
A: The café (Room 411) has three SMART boards and depending on the setup can seat anywhere from 12 to 25 people, and room 425, which seats 12, has 1 SMART board. The café will actually hold 24 for certain because it has six tables that seat 4 people each, but that also depends on the set-up you have in mind. The smaller conference rooms (Room 420 & 421) which seat four can sometimes hold five, but that makes them pretty tight. The Atrium, which holds up to 165, is very open with little to no privacy, which is something you may want to consider depending on how sensitive the information is that you will be discussing. The Atrium features a large screen, ceiling-mounted projector, PA system, and large cylindrical blackboard.
Q: What are the options for parking?
A: We always suggest the 9th Avenue public parking deck, which is adjacent to the School of Public Health. There is a $2 charge for the first hour and each hour thereafter is an additional $1 with a daily maximum charge of $6. At present, we do not validate. The 9th Avenue Deck is free after 5pm. Of course you are also always more than welcome to try to find available parking on the street, but as you may know, this can be a challenge with UAB, especially depending on the hour.
Q: Is food allowed in The Edge of Chaos? Can I have food catered? Is there a certain vendor I am required to use?

There is no particular vendor that you are required to utilize, and The Edge of Chaos does not recommend nor endorse any particular vendor. You may utilize whichever vendor you are most comfortable with.
