CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

This is a National initiative from SAMHSA. The intent of this National Campaign is to educate and bring public awareness to the status of Children and Adolescent Mental Health needs.

The Jefferson County campaign began as an initiative of the Jefferson County Mental Health group, a Health Action Partnership membership. These Community Advocates came from all different areas of Child and Adolescent services.

It began initially in 2011 with a few pieces of Students Artwork presented along with Art works for the Alabama Psychological Mental Health exhibit at UAB’s Lister Hill library. In May 2012, Student art work was obtained from Midfield Elementary and Birmingham Museum of Art to be displayed at the “ART in Avondale Art show at Avondale Park. They were later displayed at the Birmingham Public Library. Efforts to show Student Art work for Awareness in May continues today. The Campaign continues to raise Public Awareness of Children/Adolescent Mental Health through Student Art with the intent of students themselves impacting others through different art medias such as Paintings, Sculptures, Poetry, Music and Photography.
